Erdem Autumn Winter 2011

As I browsed through the first few looks of Erdem‘s show, I started to wonder: are there too many “print” fashion designers in London? But I think that calls for its own post. This collection was a disappointment. In my opinion, the prints were quite ugly and since Erdem relies on the prints to drive the collection, there wasn’t much left to look at. I just didn’t like the 80′s, outer-space looking patterns, which is a shame as he usually produces such beautiful work.

I love…

great pattern placement on a very classy dress.

this pretty lace overlay.

I loathe…

a tacky 80's print on what looks like cheap-plastic-y fabrics.

throwing a random, boring sweater over a dress. Is Erdem trying to branch out into boring knits now?

a print that looks too DVF and a shape that looks very old-fashioned.

that these prints just aren't doing it for me.

Not as great as his usual. I don’t mind the mishmash of prints of that last one — I would wear that skirt.

There ARE too many print designers in the UK. I asked Emma Cook whether it was coincidence or conspiracy (haha) but didn’t get a real answer. I guess maybe they are all inspired by each other…

I think if you forecast into the future a little you would see he is trying something with the bold colours about to hit the runway again for winter this season. The vintage inspired lengths and cuts are very obvious here. Not amazing but ok and I can see where he is going with this collection. Oh and love the first dress, gorgeous!

Some good points, but I still think his prints are quite weak, and he relies on this to drive his collection. The shapes on their own are not strong enough.
