Rodarte Autumn Winter 2011

I’ve never truly understood why Rodarte is the golden child of American fashion (or golden children.) I’ll agree that their collections are definitely more innovative than most of the mainstream American designers, but I’ve always felt that they don’t merit the attention they’ve gotten (and remember the $500 socks?) Some of the pieces here look like the type of thing I’d see one of my fashion students design, and I’d tell them it is ugly. It looks like a mish mash of ideas, with little cohesion, and made from weird, unattractive fabrics. Aside from a few beautiful dresses, this collection didn’t get me excited.

I love…

a beautiful crochet dress.

dramatic drapes.

a nicely cut coat dress. I love the crossover straps in the front.

I loathe…

an unattractive jumpsuit. And what's with the Star Wars neckline?

a dress that looks like it has been made by a beginner fashion student with loads of cheap fabrics.

a very matronly dress.

more Star-Wars-y necklines.
