83rd Annual Academy Awards

Well, everyone told me the Academy Awards were boring, and I won’t disagree with that, when it comes to the dresses.

I love…

Academy Awards, Oscars, red carpet, Amy Adams, L'Wren Scott, Anette Benning, Naeem Khan

Left, Amy Adams in L'Wren Scott. She looks very glamorous. Right, Anette Benning in Naeem Khan, a flattering dress and completely age appropriate.

Academy Awards, Oscars, red carpet, Cate Blanchett, Givenchy Couture, Celine Dion, Armani Privé

Left, Cate Blanchett in Givenchy Couture. It is so nice to see one of these dresses on the red carpet. Celine Dion in Armani Privé. I never though I'd say something ncice about Dion, but she looks great in this dress, even though it is a bit too tight.

Academy Awards, Oscars, red carpet, Gwyneth Paltrow, Calvin Klein, Florence Welch, Florence and the Machine, Valentino Couture

Left, Florence Welch in Valentino Couture. She is probably the only person who can get away with this dress. Right, Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein Collection. Love the neckline.

Left, Helen Mirren in Vivienne Westwood. She always looks stunning. Right, Jennfier Hudson in Atelier Versace. There is a bit too much cleavage on show, but other than that, this is a great shape on her.

I loathe…

Academy Awards, Oscars, red carpet, Halle Berry, Marchesa, Helena Bonham Carter, Colleen Atwood

Left, Halle Berry in Marchesa. A boring, prdictable, pouffy, shiny ballgown. Right, Helena Bonham Carter in Colleen Atwood. This woman is a red carpet car crash at the moment.

Academy Awards, Oscars, red carpet, Chanel, haute couture, Michelle Williams, Gucci, Hilary Swank

Left, Hilary Swank in Gucci. This is just boring. Right, Michelle Williams in Chanel Couture. Not very flattering, and leaves little to the imagination.

Academy Awards, Oscars, red carpet, Natalie Portman, Rodarte, Nicole Kidman, Christian Dior haute couture

Natalie Portman in Rodarte. The most uninteresting Rodarte dress ever. Right, Nicole Kidman in Christian Dior Haute Couture. Dior makes the most beautiful couture, why has Kidman chosen the most unimpressive piece?

Academy Awards, Oscars, red carpet, Sandra Bullock, Sharon Stone, Christian Dior

Left, Sandra Bullock in Vera Wang. Nothing special. Right, Sharon Stone in Dior. Another totally unimpressive Dior number.

I’m not sure about…

Academy Awards, Oscars, red carpet, Anne Hathaway, Valentino Couture, Calvin Klein collection, Jennifer Lawrence

Left, Anne Hathaway in vintage Valentino couture. Is this beautiful, or boring? Right, Jennifer Lawrence in Calvin Klein Collection. Is this possibly TOO simple?

Haha, we have the same LOVE list except I had Michelle Williams. I thought she looked cute.

Why do people insist on wearing the same Marchesa dress year after year?

Marchesa = death by boring evening wear.

And to answer your question, everyone insists on wearing the same Marchesa
dresses because Harvey Weinstein is involved and he is a big wig in the film
    world.

I keep looking back at that red Calvin Klein dress, trying to answer the same question you had. I think I’ve come to the conclusion that if it had been accessorized differently (shoes, jewelry, etc. – even more of a ‘statement’ bag) it might not have seemed too simple, but as it is, it’s just a little bit too plain. I feel as if it’s like a really gorgeous canvas that is missing a focal point.

I think Amy’s dress was nice, but with so much sequins why does she need that necklace I cannot understand and that ruins the look for me. I love love love Cate Blanchett.
Regarding the Calvin Klein dress – I think it is too simple for the Oscars, someone somewhere compared it to Baywatch, really it reminds me of Pamela Anderson’s red bathing suit.

You are totally right, that red Calvin Klein dress IS the red carpet version
    of Pamela Anderson’s Baywatch swimsuit!
