Balmain Autumn Winter 2011

I am flat out refusing to let the recent Balmain news (rumors that Christophe Decarnin is in a mental hospital) affect my review. So with that in mind, or not in mind, I would say that this collection is the same old crap we have been seeing season after season. Tight jeans, statement tailored jackets, and embellished dresses, plus with a few horrible jumpsuits added in for good measure. This brand is tired. And by the way, I guess Emmanuelle Alt wasn’t exactly the driving force behind Balmain, as the collection doesn’t look at better or worse (could it have gotten worse?) since she has stopped working for them as a consultant.

I love…

those fabulous fur shoulders. But on a jersey jumpsuit? Terrible.

I loathe…

a gold suit worn with white boots. T-A-C-K-Y.

how little Balmain has evolved in the past few seasons.

an outfit I feel that's I've seen a thousand times. And the fact that it probably costs over $20K.

Balmain space suits.

overly obvious David Bowie references. And the fact that the jumpsuit is hideous.
