Savage Beauty at the Met

Last night was the Met Ball celebrating the opening of the Alexander McQueen exhibition being held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, entitled Savage Beauty. I must say the red carpet was extremely boring considering the theme (nothing savage here…), I was expecting some serious McQueen pieces, and instead we were bored to death by Marchesa and Stella McCartney. Here are my loves and loathes.

I love…

Anna Dello Russo, Alexander McQueen, Alexa Chung, Christopher Kane, red carpet fashion, The Met Ball

Anna Dello Russo in McQueen, and the egghead is cool. Alexa Chung in Christopher Kane. Even though his last collection was very weak, this dress looks great on her.

Diane Von Furstenberg, Daphne Guinness, Alexander McQueen, red carpet fashion, The Met Ball

Diane Von Furstenberg in her own design, it is bold and fun. Daphne Guinness in Alexander McQueen, she is one of the few who actually wore an interesting McQueen piece, instead of playing it safe.

Claire Danes, Freida Pinto, Calvin Klein, Chanel, red carpet fashion, The Met Ball

Claire Danes in Calvin Klein. Its boring, but at least she looks good. Freida Pinto in Chanel, she is so cute and this dress suits her perfectly.

Iman, Stella McCartney, Gisele Bundchen, Alexander McQueen, red carpet fashion, The Met Ball

Iman in Stella McCartney, that woman in super glamorous! Gisele in Alexander McQueen. A pretty tame choice of McQueen peices, but at least it looks great on her.

Liz Tyler, Givenchy Couture, Diane Kruger, Jason Wu, red carpet fashion, The Met Ball

Liv Tyler in Givenchy Couture, amazing! Diane Kruger in Jason Wu, classic and stunning.

Raquel Zimmerman in Alexander McQueen, just wish she'd done something with her hair. Madonna in Stella McCartney, thank god she isn't wearing lingerie!

Rihanna, Stella McCartney, Crystal Renn, Zac Posen, red carpet fashion, The Met Ball

Rihanna in Stella McCartney and Crystal Renn in Zac Posen. Both look super dramatic and seriously amazing.

I loathe…

Tom Ford, Carolyn Murphy, Serena WIlliams, Oscar de la Renta, red carpet fashion, The Met Ball

Tom Ford and Carolyn Murphy in Tom Ford. I'm shocked at how unflattering and tacky that dress looks. Serena Williams in Oscar de la Renta. Did someone forget to tell her she was a guest at a ball, and not the bride at a wedding?

Salma Hayek, Alexander McQueen, Sarah jessica Parker, red carpet fashion, The Met Ball

Salma Hayek in Alexander McQueen. As the wife of the owner of McQueen, I would have suggested she not choose the one McQueen dress that looks like Valentino. Sarah Jessica Parker in an equally boring Alexander McQueen dress.

Naomi Campbell, Alexander McQueen, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Burberry, décolleté

Naomi Campbell, who looks absolutely ridiculous in that Alexander McQueen dress. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Burberry, a dress with way too much decollete and that looks quite cheap.

Miranda Kerr, Marchesa, Stella McCartney, décolleté

Miranda Kerr dressed like a fairy in Marchesa, and Stella McCartney in a weirdly shaped dress (that doesn't look nice.)

Lily Donaldson, Erdem, Kate Hudson, Stella McCartney, decollete

Lily Donaldson in Erdem, I think see-through lace dresses are a bit lame. Put in a lining. Kate Hudson in Stella McCartney, I wouldn't have worn something strapless, she looks...sloppy.

Jennifer Lopez, Hamish Bowles, Gucci, Alexander McQueen, red carpet fashion, the Met ball

Jennifer Lopez looking ridiculous in Gucci, and Hamish Bowles looking even more ridiculous in Alexander McQueen.

Gwyneth Paltrow, Stella McCartney, Fergie, Marchesa, red carpet fashion, the Met ball

Gwyneth Paltrow looking boring in Stella McCartney and showing off the fact that she is thin. Fergie looking like a really tacky bride in Marchesa.

Christina Hendricks, Carolina Herrera, Blake Lively, Chanel, red carpet fashion, the Met ball

Christina Hendricks looking 65 in Carolina Herrera and Blake Lively in a very disappointing Chanel dress.

Beyonce, Emilio Pucci, Ashley Olsen, Dior, red carpet fashion, the Met ball

Beyonce trying too hard to show off her curves in Emilion Pucci. Ashley Olsen in vintage Dior, those sleeves are silly and overshadow her.

Andre Leon Talley, Lara Stone, Calvin Klein

Andre Leon Talley looking...himself. (I don't think he owns a mirror.) Lara Stone in Calvin Klein, obviously trying not to draw any attention to herself.

I’m not sure about…

Anna Wintour, Chanel, Vera Wang, red carpet fashion, the Met ball

Anna Wintour in Chanel. I love the dress, but shouldn't she have worn McQueen? Vera Wang in a lovely green dress but looking like she hasn't eaten in three years.

Doutzen Kroes, Giambattista Valli, Chloe Sevigny, Alexander McQueen, red carpet fashion, the Met ball

Doutzen Kroes in Giambattista Valli, is this too much, or too much in a good way? Chloe Sevigny in Alexander McQueen, love the dress but what the hell is going on with her hair?

Maybe savage beauty was a bit vague, I kind of forgot that was the theme. Super funny play by play comments w/ the pics, wtf Carolyn Murphy in Tom Ford! That is the most outrageously unflattering design/color/cut/makeup/hair, very confusing and surprising.

I’m sooo pleased that Madonna made it into your ‘Love’ section…. I think you mean “Thank God she isn’t wearing black”, I’m soooo tired of her wearing black at every event she graces! Naomi Campbell looks like Joe Pesci in Home Alone when Kevin covers him in glue and blows feathers in his face!

She deserved it, she looked good!

I was really surprised at how much Stella McCartney there was – it seemed like ever other dress.

Yes, well when you have a celebrity father and you’ve embedded yourself into
the world of celebrities…then that is what happened. Reason why Marchesa
was all over the place too.
