Amongst the huge number of ladylike suits, pretty cocktail dresses, and serious ballgowns expected at Oscar de la Renta, there were a few stars, and a few duds. I loved some of the pretty bright coloured short dresses and the taffeta ballgown skirts worn with heavy lace tops. But sometimes those ballgowns just get too “ballgown”, and they look dated and sometimes cheap. And who actually wears ballgowns these days anyway? A big skirt with something less fancy on top, maybe, but really, a pretty cocktail dress is the new ballgown.
