Oscar de la Renta Spring Summer 2012

Amongst the huge number of ladylike suits, pretty cocktail dresses, and serious ballgowns expected at Oscar de la Renta, there were a few stars, and a few duds. I loved some of the pretty bright coloured short dresses and the taffeta ballgown skirts worn with heavy lace tops. But sometimes those ballgowns just get too “ballgown”, and they look dated and sometimes cheap. And who actually wears ballgowns these days anyway? A big skirt with something less fancy on top, maybe, but really, a pretty cocktail dress is the new ballgown.

I love…

starting the show with a serious ballgown! And that lace top is gorgeous.

a girly, pretty yellow dress.

an interesting print placement.

that Oscar de la Renta CAN do effortless, easy, flowing, and simple.

I loathe…

furry shoulders, they look silly.

too much in one outfit. This is tacky.

period-references on a dress that just looks too..."ballgown-y." Know what I mean?

How AMAZING is that first look?

Are we seeing a little lace sleeve thing happening, hmm, a little Kate Middleton trickle-down effect?  I hope this silhouette catches on.

The pink dress is dreadful. Otherwise, I liked the collection. Many bright colours, which is cool… I’m not sure about the tummy sighseeing though.
It’s sure interesting to follow the collection from the begining to this, thanks to the fantastic social media information given by the brand. Love it.
