Chanel Fall Winter 2012

Almost there! Tomorrow I’ll review McQueen, Vuitton, and Miu Miu and then we are done! In the meantime…. here’s Chanel.

There were a lot of beautiful ideas in this Chanel show, but it also felt like too much of a good thing. The 3D geometric shapes, vibrant palette of colour, leg o’mutton sleeves, layers of sheer, and heavy feather-like embellishments were all ideas with great merit, but when they met together in one show, it felt overwhelming. Especially considering Karl is the type who has one or two firm silhouette ideas, a restricted colour palette and runs with it.

I love…

these leg o'mutton sleeves. But I'm not so keen on the three piece suit: jacket, skirt, and pants.

the Chanel duster coat.

this amazing geometric sleeve. Wow.

rows and rows of pleats.

a great cut out neckline.

I loathe…

Chanel jogging pants. And this parka isn't exactly nice, either.

a tacky mix of colours. Although it is nice to see Lagerfeld is going beyond monochromatic.

that was not nice. also i find the whole crystal and crystal geometry element, as you might say, looks like a student came up with the idea

If my students came up with and executed an idea like that, I’d be jumping for joy.

Although, as you said, it’s nice to see Karl going for colours, I didn’ really like the collection. Sure, the looks you posted are nice, I find this collection a wee bit too much. I don’t know how to explain it, it doesn’t look easy to me…
The second look, and that cutted neckline, though, are very nice and look very modern to me.

well they’re students, they have little or no experience nor do they have the resources lagerfeld does. EH, i guess the whole CRYSTAL thing just isn’t very cool to me

Bill Gaytten also did bird costumes for John Galliano this season. Another weird trend?

     I hope not!

Jil Sander for Chanel. My extremely ill-fated campaign which would honestly make a lot of sense. Even though I am aware no one will go for it.

The third coat down is to die for.
