Miu Miu Fall Winter 2012

I don’t normally review brand’s secondary lines (because I have to draw the line somewhere, and this season I’ve reviewed 62 shows and that is enough) but I always review Miu Miu because it is one of the last shows of Paris fashion week, which means we are free from runway coverage for at least another month or two (until resort starts. But I just ignore resort.)

Anyway, this collection fit in well with some of the themes we’ve been seeing at the other catwalk shows, notably the hideous printed suits at Louis Vuitton and Prada. Except Miu Miu added a retro twist, or, shall I say, copied outfits from the late 60′s and early 70′s and put them on the catwalk. It was scary business, unless you’ve been invited to an Austin Powers party, in which case, Miu Miu has just the costume for you.

I love…

some of the flirty late 60's/early 70's references in this collection. But most of them aren't very nice

I loathe…

iridescent mustard double breasted suits.

printed suits. There are too many of these on the catwalks this season, and they aren't cool.

suede tunic suits. The 60's/70's references are to obvious, designers are supposed to add SOMETHING contemporary.

print mix disasters.

So I realize you’re exhausted at this point but can you give us your top and bottom 5 shows?

Ok, will do. Early next week.

No, I am not doing this as a post. I changed my mind. So here: favourites were Haider Ackermann, Jil Sander, Valentino, Calvin Klein, and Alexander Wang (the sweatshop master, more on that soon.) Least faves were Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton, Christopher Kane, Versace, obviously Victoria Beckham, but hey, she doesn;t even deserve to be in the same list as those others.
