Pretty Pictures: Claudia Schiffer for Guess

I was hesitant to post these pictures because I am not a huge fan of the Guess brand (let’s be honest here, it is usually quite tacky.) But there’s no denying they have created some very iconic imagery with their advertising campaigns. I love the way a blond bombshell photographed in black and white is usually associated with this brand, and while it may not be considerate of us non-blonds (or non-bombshells), it is recognizable. And fierce. So I can definitely appreciate these 30th anniversary campaign photos, shot by Ellen von Unwerth and featuring the ultimate blond bombshell herself, Claudia Schiffer.

I know this it totally off topic (and I do love Claudia’s pictures for Guess back in the day) but I just read a NY Times article about the swimmer Ryan Lochte wanting to be a clothing designer after he’s through being an Olympian and I instantly thought of you. What is going on with people? Why does everyone want to be a designer? The more I read and learn about the fashion world the more I think I am so very glad I don’t want to be in the business.  I just want to go to costume exhibits to admire fine craftsmanship of past designers and then go home and sew. Anyway, hope you will write about your thoughts on Ryan’s future as a designer!

Oh god, that is depressing. The role of the fashion designer has been totally devalued, if athletes, who don’t even have stylists, think they can design clothes.

She looks fab, and as you said, their pictures are iconic enough to be instantly recognizable, a thing that most brands seem to forget these days.
