Maison Martin Margiela Haute Couture Fall Winter 2012

This Maison Martin Margiela couture collection was BAD. Depressing, in fact, as I expect to be impressed by this brand. This was a mish mash of Balmain-esque embellishment, tacky sheer pants, and mangled ideas that didn’t tell a story. And the one thing I did like should hardly be called an “I love,” it is more of an “I like.”

an uninteresting white suit. We all know Margiela does great tailoring, but can’t you buy off-the-rack Margiela tailoring if you want something simple like this? What makes it couture?

sheer pants. WHAT IS WITH ALL THE SHEER PANTS?!?! Seriously, who wears sheer pants?

a jacket that looks more Balmain than Margiela. And more sheer pants!!!!

    Sadly, I’m going to say that there is a contingent of young people (the type who shop at Urban Outfitters) who do wear sheer pants…

    Sheer pants are only one step away from Uggs and Crocs and yoga pants as streetwear.

    Definitely agree that this collection pretty much lacked the whole notion of couture and sadly there is a certain group of people who would gladly embrace the sheer pants (though they won’t be wearing one from Margiela).
