Jean Paul Gaultier Spring Summer 2013

If Jean Paul Gaultier wants to convince us he can excel at costumes for musicians, then he has done a good job on this show. If anyone needs a Madonna, Michael Jackson, Boy George, Annie Lennox, David Bowie or Grace Jones outfit, then this is the brand for you (Halloween is nearing…) But remove the silly costume antics and what’s left is very little substance. Even the signature sexy tailoring felt wrong in this show, and I couldn’t even find a hot trench. Dear Mr. Gaultier, concentrate on making clothes, not costumes. Please.

I love…

triangular sheer panels. Beautiful.

I loathe…

a high cut shirt and low cut pants. This is never ok.

too many Madonna references.

Boy George references (didn’t he imprison some rent boy and assault him?)

way too many musician costumes.

that we are on to David Bowie now.

a baggy, strapless, onesie. This is so wrong.
