Before I start on this somewhat negative review of the Alexander McQueen show, I would like to point out that I am extremely grateful that Sarah Burton is at the helm (instead of some ridiculous ego) and that she has done excellent, amazing work since her appointment. But I’m over her costume productions, and am eager for some real clothes. We know she can make them, Kate Middleton wears them all the time (when she is wearing clothes, hehe) but her catwalk shows have become these elaborate, ornate displays of overdone clothing.
A quick look back on McQueen’s history reveals that he has always sent a lot of real clothes down the runway, despite some very unusual show styling and productions (Plato’s Atlantis was perhaps the one exception to this) because he was a clothing designer. But Sarah Burton is showing her costume design skills, and I’m bored of extreme corsetry, insane shoes, bizarre headwear and full skirts made of everything but fabric. It looks fantastic on the catwalk, but I’d like to see how she dresses the real woman, before Kate Middleton is photographed wearing it. Sarah, you have made your mark, now let’s get down to the business of designing clothes.
I love…

a very ornate little shorts suit. This lovely tailoring segment was the only real clothes in the show.
I loathe…
