Saint Laurent Spring Summer 2013

You can’t say Hedi Slimane hasn’t represented the archive of Yves Saint Laurent in this show, he has included the safari jacket cuts, the voluminous chiffon, the boho mood, and the feminine details (giant pussy bow blouses) into several of the looks. But this is a very crude mix of Hedi Slimane meets YSL, it is his skinny suits (the only thing he was ever good at), combined with a few YSL signatures. The evening wear wasn’t amazing either. The sheer pieces, long seventies cuts, and waspie belts weren’t offensive, but also far from genius. Aside from the hats, which are pretty cool, I don’t think he should have bothered with this bastardization of one of the most iconic fashion archives from the 20th century. Hedi Slimane is good at one thing, slim tailoring, and we are over it. Plus, to top things off, he is calling this “couture-a-porter.” Cue projectile vomiting here.

I love…
the hats. They were fun. But aside from that, there was nothing to die for.

I loathe…

that Hedi Slimane is incapable of moving away from the skinny pant. I believe this is what they call a one-trick pony.

blatant YSL archive references without adding anything new, modern, or interesting.

Was it just me, or were the last 10 or so looks basically the same dress but in different colours? Where’s the imagination?

  • alexandrasuhnerisenberg

There is no imagination. That’s the problem.

I hoped you’d comment on Hedi’s ridiculous letter to Cathy Horyn. It made me sooo angry.

I’m going to next week! He is RIDICULOUS.

I am not sure if it was just me, but I got Rachel Zoe and Ralph Lauren when I first saw this collection. I am missing Stefano (at least he was somewhat original)

Yes, I’ve heard a lot of Rachel Zoe comparions with this show, which is pretty much the ultimate insult after being compared to Victoria Beckham. I DIE! ;-)
