I love that the concept of wedding photos and family portraits has evolved so much in the past decade. It’s no longer about cheesy studio shots with gross grey backgrounds, so many people are choosing modern photographers to capture key moments in their life. I’m super happy with the portraits our photographer, Nicole Gurney, has done for us. It helped that she knew us personally, but she also managed to capture our life and style in the photos. (If you are curious, I am pretty sure there are a bunch of us on her website.) I’m also in love with Julie Blackmon‘s work, and although she is not a family portrait photographer, I would love to have her do a shot of us, or at least my kids (well, soon to be kids.) Her set-ups (which must require a lot of planning or a lot of luck) tell very interesting stories, and that’s a very important quality of good photography.
