Valentino Couture Spring Summer 2013

Valentino is getting better and better right now, although I feel there were a few missteps in this show. It started off beautifully, with strong silhouettes, incredible laces, and tasteful odes to Valentino red. But the end was a bit…blah. Lots of tacky, super fancy dresses with an overload of embroidery and shiny fabrics, the kind of thing you’d expect to see at Elie Saab (and that’s not a compliment.)

I love…

this amazing dress. Wow wow wow.

a striking, elegant white dress.

a beautiful, loose lace dress. This would make a fantastic wedding gown.

I loathe…

when a dress looks like a tacky wedding cake.

a load of frouffy, non-descript “couture” dresses at the end of the show. What happened?

THEY TOTALLY ARE GETTING REALLY GOOD. like their mens collection for this summer is so excellent. i agree there was a bit too much saab/marcheesa though. otherwise, really nice stuff!

The collection is absolutely amazing, as well as Elie Saab’s, just the fact that Elie Saab collections look the same every season does not mean the clothes are not gorgeous and classy.

Valentino was by far the stand out show of the week.

Yes, I suppose you are right that it isn’t always a bad thing when the collections are similar season after season, but my issue with Elie Saab is that it is also boring.
