Balmain Fall Winter 2013

Are we sure Christophe Decarnin left? By the looks of things, he hasn’t. Balmain has barely evolved since Olivier Rousteing took charge, it is still all about maximalism, in the worst way possible. Think cheap-looking metallic fabrics, bad eighties shoulders, and highly unflattering high waisted harem pants. We’ve swapped $2,000 ripped jeans for metallic green dropped crotch spacesuits with four sets of shoulder pads. Is this a joke?

I love…

an awesome statement coat.

I loathe…

trashy, tacky eighties clothing.

the worst pants, ever.

when a jacket needs four sets of shoulder pads.

i’m beginning to find it so outrageous and tacky and 80s that i’m beginning to like it haha. i mean it’s pretty impractical, but it sure is 80s glam!

What does Balmain stand for now? What kind of woman is it for? Or has the brand become irrelevant altogether?

I hated it. The guy can’t move forward. Is that too hard?

I miss Decarnin. He did so well, and so better. I thought his ripped t-shirts for over 500 euros were definitely more interesting and original. And he was my favorite, because he was crafting basic styles. Which was somehow intriguing. At least in my eyes. And now this boy is ruining Balmain – making it too polished and too.. may be they are opting for an older clientele who wouldn’t buy luxurious ripped pair of jeans.

I thought what Decarnin did at the start was ok, the jeans and t-shirts were interesting for 2 seasons. But he didn’t move on. And neither is Rousteing.

Its stands for dropped crotch green metallic spacesuits with four sets of shoulder pads. So maybe Barbarella is their new customer?

In another less tacky fabric, that jumpsuit at the end would have worked for me. But I’m dying to get my claws on that first statement coat. Remins me of a samurai.
