Erdem Fall Winter 2013

Erdem should be the Jason Wu of the UK, providing ladylike chic to the ladies who lunch (or in the case of the UK, the ladies who drink lots of wine in the afternoon.) But the beauty of Jason Wu is that he doesn’t go overboard, he does beautiful clothing that women want to wear. This Erdem collection was an excellent example of trying too hard, where feathers, black chiffon, and an overdose of elaborate textiles prevented what could have been a very lovely collection. Over-designed to the max, I’m disappointed with this cluttered show.

I love…

nothing. I did like a few things, but not a single look was loved.

I loathe…

an incredibly unattractive sheer black double-breasted coat.

a shape that is trying too hard to be edgy.

the dress that, no matter who you are, will make you look chunky.

using black chiffon and organza over everything. A theme that has truly failed in this show.

Trying way too hard to be hip. Just cut a nice shift dress with a nice print and we’ll buy it.
