Rodarte Fall Winter 2013

This is another confusing Rodarte show, with a mix of design ideas that leaves the viewer wondering “what the hell is going on?” I am not a fan of Rodarte, as I find their collections to be incredibly overrated, rarely pretty, and totally overpriced. A few years back I did a comparison of the price of Rodarte with a few other brands (read it here, it is quite shocking), and today I checked Net A Porter, only to find that they were no longer carrying the brand. I’m not surprised, as this brand doesn’t make sense and the clothes don’t look good.

when Rodarte does drapy, dramatic, and a bit evil.

the bodice on this pantsuit. The drape, straps, and appliqué look so beautiful, but why does this have to be a cropped pantsuit?

horrible pants (or are they shorts) and wearing a super high cut bodysuit with low cut pants. Not a good look.

incredibly tacky knits. Rodarte seem to specialize in this.

a full length tie dye dress with some kind of weird space-age collar.

    I’m so with you, I do not understand why they are still in business, I see their clothes and feel depressed (although I agree that first look you featured is good). Glad to hear Natalie Massenet has come to her senses and dropped them from Net-a-porter.

    Gosh, I want to like them so badly.. but I can’t :D
    I love their idea of creating this uber-expensive and private label, but why are the clothes so crappy and tasteless? I don’t get it. Yes, I know it’s somehow a trend to be dressed tasteless (all those crazy English bloggers like Susie Bubble), but still.. :(
    otherwise, I love their approach and I love their handwork as well. It’s just that they need to polish their clothing.. and it might work…

    I feel their clothes are more for the theater and so than to wear with both their prices and their confusing patterns or overlayered looks. Sometimes I really like what they do because it looks arty and very well crafted, but runways like this make me think they’re to arty for their own good (and profit)

    Too arty can sometimes work, when it is arty beautiful, but this is just arty ugly.
