Spring Summer 2013 Campaigns Part 1

Here are my loves and loathes of the spring summer 2013 ad campaigns. There are a lot of them! So it is in three parts, read part two and part three.

I love…

fashion magazines, fashion photography, ad campaign, advertising, oscar de la renta

Liu Wen and Caroline Brasch by Craig McDean for Oscar de la Renta. Since ODLR is famous for ballgowns, why not stick two of them, with giant skirts and fancy up-dos, in the ad campaign?

several models by Sarah Moon for Valentino. What a great choice of photographer.

fashion magazines, fashion photography, ad campaign, advertising, alexander mcqueen

Raquel Zimmerman by David Sims for Alexander McQueen. A bee theme to the collection = model covered in honey.

fashion magazines, fashion photography, ad campaign, advertising, Patrick demarchelier, DKNY

Cara Delevingne by Patrick Demarchelier for DKNY. This formula always works: an NYC backdrop, a city girl going about her business, and preferably a yellow cab.

fashion magazines, fashion photography, ad campaign, advertising, peter lindbergh, bottega veneta

Freja Beha Erichsen by Peter Lindbergh for Bottega Veneta. I like the smoky seriousness to this shot.

I loathe…

fashion magazines, fashion photography, ad campaign, advertising, mert and marcus, stella mccartney

Natalia Vodianova by Mert and Marcus for Stella McCartney. What’s with the facial expression and the crotch shot?

fashion magazines, fashion photography, ad campaign, advertising, jimmy choo

Valerija Kelava by Angela Pennetta for Jimmy Choo. Slutty girl walks down the street showing too much leg. Meh.

fashion magazines, fashion photography, ad campaign, advertising, salvatore ferragamo

Raquel Zimmerman by David Sims for Salvatore Ferragamo. Overly contrived poses rarely look good.

fashion magazines, fashion photography, ad campaign, advertising, alexander wang

Malgosia Bela by Steven Klein for Alexander Wang. Models who look like Holocaust victims should never be shot naked.

As trivial as it may be, Oscar de la Renta’s was the best. The cleanest, the sharpest, the most beautiful out of all. And Alexander Wang.. oh, boy, he’s trying too hard.

Agree on ODLR. It isn’t trying to be anything it’s not.

  • Mona Sultan

Sarah Moon for Valentino = Perfection!
