Christian Dior Couture Fall 2013

Raf Simons played with strange fabrics and weird mixes of textures for this Christian Dior couture show. Normally this can be quite amazing but the whole show had a very ready-to-wear feel and reeked of “inspiration” from some of the designers who are known for deconstructed drapes. Plus, the show had no signature. Even the fancy strapless evening wear looked like they came off Armani’s catwalk. Sadly, this was a very mediocre show.

I love…

the only dress in this whole show that actually felt WOW.

I loathe…

an unimpressive colour combination and a weird mix of fabrics.

when Dior looks too much like Haider Ackermann and Comme des Garcons.

that a lot of this show features boring evening wear.

sheer dresses with granny pants underneath? Come on!

Do you think the mediocre result is due to the absence of John Galliano (politics aside)? And do you think Raf Simons is the right designer for Dior?

I coudn’t agree more… I was SO disappointed with this show… everything looked disconnected and as if something had gone terrible wrong… all those bizarre colour and fabric combinations… to much of everything in most every look. And those that weren’t a strange mix, were far too simple and dull.

I thought Raf was going to be ok for Dior after the last few shows, but this one was a disappointment. There’s no point getting worked up about Galliano, he isn’t coming back… let’s hope Raf gets his s**t together and lives up to his reputation.

sadly there are only a handful of great couturiers around, and apparently raf simons aren’t one of them
