2013 September Issue Covers Part 2

Here is part 2 of my loves and loathes of the 2013 September issue covers. Read Part 1.

I love…

september issue, fashion magazines, fashion photography, Harper's Bazaar

Natalia Vodianova by Jean-Baptiste Mondino for Harper’s Bazaar UK. She’s hot and I like her Dior dress.

september issue, fashion magazines, fashion photography, vogue china

Liu Wen (and a bunch of other girls, there were several different covers) by Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin on the cover of Vogue China. She looks frickin’ amazing.

september issue, fashion magazines, fashion photography, vogue japan, cara delevingne

Cara Delevingne by Patrick Demarchelier for Vogue Japan. Sure, this is a bit boring by Vogue Japan standards, and Cara always looks miserable, but I like her dress and her hair.

september issue, fashion magazines, fashion photography, british vogue

Daria Werbowy by Patrick Demarchelier for British Vogue. I love that she is wearing real clothes that someone might actually buy, and she looks beautiful.

I loathe…

september issue, fashion magazines, fashion photography,

Sasha Pivovarova by Mert & Marcus for Vogue Russia, Could this be any more stereotypical for a Russian magazine? A sexy girl wearing Versace in what looks like a steamy nightclub. Yikes.

september issue, fashion magazines, fashion photography, Victoria Beckham

Victoria Beckham on the cover of Vogue Australia. “Posh, Powerful, Provocative.” How about “Pathetic, Pointless, Plain.”

september issue, fashion magazines, fashion photography, zooey deschanel

Zooey Deschanel by Tesh on the cover of Marie Claire. She doesn’t look good.

september issue, fashion magazines, fashion photography, jennifer aniston

Jennifer Aniston shot by Alexei Hay for Glamour. If I see one more Jennifer Aniston cover with a headline including the words “fiancé” or “happiness” then I am going to SCREAM.

september issue, fashion magazines, fashion photography, drew barrymore

Drew Barrymore by Michaelangelo Di Battista for InStyle. What kind of photographer makes the lovely Drew Barrymore look THIS BAD?

september issue, fashion magazines, fashion photography,

Katy Perry by Mariano Vivanco for Elle UK. I’m so over her. Does she even sing songs anymore?

september issue, fashion magazines, fashion photography,

Cara Delevingne by Mert & Marcus for W Magazine. I could have been ok with this but she looks so miserable, the makeup looks too brown, and one of the headlines actually says “totally major” – the words which are enough for me to boycott this magazine for the rest of my life.

wow the editing in that drew berrymore cover is terrible.. look at the hair!!!

  • Beatrice17

What’s wrong with Drew? I don’t see it. But I saw an InStyle cover (must have been the US or UK version) with Naomi Watts and almost bought it, because I really like her, even with a fake punk look – but then I noticed the bad photoshopping that makes one of her arms almost the size of her torso (or rather – she looks so skinny that her torso is extremely small in proportion to her arms). Carré Otis’ honesty cannot counteract all the extreme photoshopping that still goes on, apparently. Too bad.

Drew just looks terrible. And the way her hair is cut out over the magazine title is horrible. She just looks plastic. And yes, I too am turned off by over-photoshopped magazine covers.

While I’m not a fan of Victoria Beckham as a designer, that Vogue Australia cover has such a clean, classic look that a lot of the other covers are missing. And whatever happened to Japanese Vogue – they used to have great covers and typography – now it looks like a Tokyo train ad with all that copy.

  • alexandrasuhnerisenberg

Yes, but it is still Victoria Beckham. And agree on the Japanese Vogue cover, a total disappointment.

  • Sienna

The Glamour cover with Jennifer Aniston looks more like a lifestyle magazine cover (than fashion). Am I the only one who thinks the Russian Vogue cover has a child sexualization feel too it–school girl kilt + back to school September?

  • alexandrasuhnerisenberg

Ugh – so right about the school girl thing. Are they selling that magazine to women or pervs?
