Balmain Spring Summer 2014

This Balmain show started off well but by the time we go to look 2, it all went downhill. I’m not sure who is going to sue first: Chanel, for utterly bastardizing their tweed suits and quilting, or Kanye West, for pre-empting what his third collection would have looked like, had he ever been allowed to do one.

I love…

that this could be a great look for Balmain: sexy but with a touch of conservative.

pale pink, big gold chain, and a lot of volume on the bottom of this skirt. This all works well together.

I loathe…

leather all-in-ones. Especially ones that aren’t skin tight.

that this looks like a cheap Chanel knock-off.

when an outfit looks like Kanye designed it.

YIKES.

that the only person who would be able to “get away” with this is Lil’ Kim.

Balmain to me seems like a one trick pony. Sexy, ultra-tight, slightly slutty clothes for very rich women who don’t eat anything – is there a sizeable market for this? Doign leather well is not impossible. Alessandra Fachinnetti showed beautiful paper-thin summer leather at Tod’s, in fact, pretty much the whole collection was great and its wonderful to see her back in the ring again.

I did not have the time to follow any show from Paris Fashion Week yet, but when I look at this I am thinking I didn’t miss much so far.

i have been really impressed and attracted to balmain these past two seasons. this collection was so dated and tacky like old versace, i loved it! i like that these looks aren’t replicable and is at least something different than all this minimal stuff. i just watched the dior collection and sadly i am losing interest in raf. he has been doing his colour palette and basically same shit for quite some time now and it’s not getting better. as much as i dislike him as a public figure (because he sucks his cheeks in/had surgery and looks dumb), i think olivier is stepping it up from decarnin. there ain’t no ripped t-shirt here, and everything looks like great pieces to me.

Ugh – agree on Dior. It kind of sucked.

My thought exactly, I watched the show yesterday and was like “you are kidding, right?”
