Celine Spring Summer 2014

Everyone acts like Céline is some kind of saviour brand that is doing great things for women’s wardrobes. Well, I’m here to tell you that a lot of women won’t want to wear this stuff, and they certainly won’t feel liberated by it. The refined silhouettes, simple details, and straightforward shapes have been replaced by overly designed clothing. It would be so incredibly refreshing if catwalks reviewers actually just said “Phoebe, you f****d up this season, but you are a good designer, so better luck next time.” Instead, this will get loads of praise and some people will actually be conned into buying it in stores.

I love…

this gorgeous coat.

I loathe…

when a skirt looks like that weird protective plastic mesh they put around fancy fruit or booze when you buy it duty free. And let’s not even start on the weird thing around the model’s waist.

curly hems.

when there is too much going on for a supposedly “minimalist” brand. It happens quite often in this show.

that this looks like it has been draped in “weird” ways to make it look cool or interesting or something, but really, it just looks dumb.

slogans on the sleeves? really?

Not a single person looks impressed in those photos. Not a one.

Hehe yes, they look rather bored. I actually do pay attention to the faces the front row makes during a show. You know why some hide behind sunglasses ;)

Good observation–especially Anna Wintour (most of the time). I like the blue coat. The slogans? I can’t think of any time I like words on my clothing except on SOME t-shirts.

The models look bored, most of the clothes look messy… where did the elegance of this brand go?

What a disappointing, downright ugly collection after a very beautiful fall/winter 2013 collection. It appears she tried to go in a newer direction (deliberately ugly like Prada) after many other designers and brands have caught onto the ‘new minimalism’ train. It is equally disappointing when seasoned fashion journalists find ways to explain away this mess as how women are feeling and what they want to wear.

Prada’s ugly works (sometimes) and Céline’s ugly does NOT.
