Erdem Spring Summer 2014

I feel like Erdem has lost his way. This collection had elements of Alexander Wang’s sportiness, Richard Nicoll’s sheer and shirt combos, and some Chanel-like tailoring and embellishment. I didn’t loathe any of those items, but they were confusing. I guess Erdem got tired of dressing chic ladies for afternoon tea, I wonder how this new younger, trendy and more edgy look will work out for him.

I love…

sheers over lace. But this looks a bit too sporty for the Erdem runway.

a feathery dress.

a beautiful flapper-inspired evening dress. Just wish it was lined.

I loathe…

a sheer and embellished denim-like jacket with matching pants. This is very wrong.

I didn’t know anything about Erdem until I saw the blue military blazer Duchess Kate wore and a fabulous bold blue floral dress Emma Watson wore to the Toronto International Film Festival a couple of years ago. He seemed to have strong clean lines and a certain classic confidence–these photos don’t reflect that.

So Alexandra I’m guessing the B&W theme of this spring/summer continues next year?

Yes, we will probably see a lot of B&W for fall… And Erdem’s SS14 collection is not very Kate Middleton at all – which in most cases is a good thing – but since that was his type of customer, he risks alienating them.
