Lanvin Spring Summer 2014

This was a very disappointing Lanvin collection. The beginning of the show featured incredibly cheap-looking metallic fabrics and shapes that were neither flattering nor elegant (two things we can normally count on from Lanvin.) Then we went on to confusing suits, mismatched separates, and frankly, poor design. Alber Elbaz is certainly having an off day.

I love…

that Elbaz can cut a great dress. Wish there were more of them in this show.

I loathe…

a very unimpressive dress and that she looks like she is carrying a trashbag.

metallic jumpsuits. At Lanvin. This makes me sad.

when Lanvin looks like Betsey Johnson.

I felt Elbaz was regurgitating the same old ideas in this show. Since his signatures are now well-established, it would be great to see him take the label into fresher, newer territory. The over-wrought styling, chunky jewelry, etc just feels a little out of touch with the times.

It does, and the fact that he wasn’t using his usually luxe, thick fabrics, meant the whole collection was cheapened.

To me the fabric of the shiny metallic dresses looks like Christmas presents wrapping paper. And not the most expensive one. Maybe it looks less bad live and up close …
