Narciso Rodriguez Spring Summer 2014

Sometimes I question my selection technique for the fashion week reviews – I basically choose the brands I deem important, designers I know well, and the ones I want to review. In the grand scheme of things, Narciso Rodriguez doesn’t seem like a very important show because he isn’t a star of the moment, whereas I skipped talked-about shows like Altuzarra (who just got partially acquired by Kering.) The thing is, I love Narciso Rodriguez because he makes beautiful, simple, sexy American clothing and he has a very defined style which he never strays from. This show was no exception – lots of perfect dresses that have put me in the mood to show off tanned legs. So for now you’ll have to just put up with my choice of shows, and join me in appreciating brands like this, who don’t follow trends or make massive headline, but just make really nice clothes.

I love…

half white, half black leather.

the silhouettes in this show – I love that the top is the same length as the bottom and the sleeve ends exactly at the waistline. Perfect.

a nice way to use sheers (meaning you can’t see any nipples) and the discreet detail on the skirt (can you see it? A triangle that’s in a slightly shinier fabric.)

the wrap shapes throughout this show – very flattering.

    That last piece is sublime.

I completely agree with you – any one of these would make an “average” woman look like a million bucks (meaning you don’t have to be a 19yo Ukrainian model with legs up to her arm pits. Although they do look great as well!) . Chic, classy, sexy without being overt and oh so timeless – those dresses will look as wonderful 10 years from now as they do today. The man knows how to dress women, I wish there were more designers like him at NYFW!

I’m surprised you resisted the temptation to diss Victoria Beckham again ;P

    This collection is perfect!

She basically did a poor man’s version of Celine – I’m tired of reviewing her pathetic shows.

Wow! I love them all. I love how he is true to himself and his art–takes confidence!

I hope Narciso Rodriguez considers a collaboration with a lower priced line (ie Banana Republic) because I might be his biggest new fan.

Very well stated Paulette! Now can you please convince him to do a lower priced collaboration so I can own a Rodriguez:-)?
