Prada Spring Summer 2014

I loved Prada‘s last collection, loathed the one before, so I had no idea what to expect today. This show was neither disappointing nor surprising, it was Prada in its element. A bit of ugly, a few weird ideas (giant faces and bras on top), a bit of sporty, a lot of texture, and many uncomfortable colours, done well.

I love…

the way Prada always does great spring furs.

the mish mash of ideas that this brand does so well.

a really cool graphic dress. Although a bit too easy to copy – this will be everywhere in a few weeks.

I loathe…

wearing am embellished bra over your normal clothing. I know it is very Prada thing to do, but that doesn’t make it cool.

My first reaction when I saw this show was “made for Instagram”

    Ooh,I like these big faces.

Honestly, I didn’t like at least half of it. Yes I read about the interview where she defines ugly as attractive because fresh but well … uhm … especially the bra tops. The face dress you picked as love, I think it is well done because integrated seamlessly. Some of the other versions just left me groaning. Like the black one with the yellow/turquoise top part. Alas I was wondering how they’d look on someone filling the dress (blue skirt/black top dress? I like, but needs filling). This was one of the shows where I would really have wanted to see the clothing being presented by vibrant people. The blank and sad zombie look some of these models had scared me.

But some of the garments I would order for a boutique or a client because I think they could be amazing under the right circumstances in the right combination.

Would love some of the coats personally, the white with face and the two blue ones. Dear M.P. please send them in my direction, I promise I’ll treat them well, thank you :)

I like that Prada and a few other brands take some radical chances each season – and attempt to push fashion in bold new directions. When they succeed, it makes for great fashion (I loved the Copacabana collection), when they fail, they fail. I found some of the looks interesting but it didn’t really come together as a strong, game-changing collection for me – but I suppose you can’t do that every season.

not worried. i’m sure all the editors will start rocking it and i’m sure it’ll grow on me if not more (get obsessed)

Great points. I agree that Prada is about ugly – sometimes in a good way, other times in a bad way.

And it will make great editorial.
