Louis Vuitton Spring Summer 2014

This Louis Vuitton show confirms that Marc Jacobs has lost his ability to design innovative, interesting, beautiful collections for a luxury brand. And what perfect timing – as he is leaving Louis Vuitton to focus on preparing for an initial public offering for his own brand. I’m guessing once that happens Marc Jacobs (the brand) will truly become about masstige handbags, perfume, and ballerina flats. It is going to be all about quantity.

Hopefully in a few years, once Jacobs’ bank accounts are stuffed full or perhaps when he has lost control of his company (by choice or forced out), he will allow himself to be creative again, and he will come back and do something great. Until then, let’s hope that his replacemnet at Vuitton will not be producing this kind of ugly fashion. Aside from a few crazy cool biker-esque jackets, this show was quite unattractive. There was potential with the lace detailing but the placement of some of the embroidery was so badly done, even the models looks unbalanced. And don’t even start me on the bad jeans. Goodbye Marc, and good luck!

I love…

a very cool jacket and top. But I’ll pass on the logo skirt.

I loathe…

a really bad cut of jeans.

badly cut jeans made worse by embellishment. Cue massive shudders.

that there is so much wrong with this outfit, starting with the weird shape of the bust, and the crotch embellishment.

show girl outfits gone wrong.

It’s not clear on the pic and I missed the show due to an emergency, but is it embellishment or a full sheer skirt over those jeans?

There’s no need to analyze what is wrong with the crotch-corset-outfit beyond exactly that. It was probably labelled as “WTF lol” backstage.

As for the rest … This is running under “pret-a-porter”? Are we sure Marc J. isn’t secretly trolling all of us?

I can not believe any of the career fashion journos aren’t calling this collection for the pile of crap that it is – basically an amped up version of his namesake collection shown in NY albeit with more glam materials. Instead, they’re heaping praise on his tenure at LV. This is definitely not the way to bow out. Rumours are floating that Ghesquiere is tipped to replace him – since Vuitton’s runway collections seem to be essentially about press/hype than sales (I don’t see them doing huge sales on the clothing) – he may well fit the bill.

I’m pretty sure it is embellished jeans. And agree on the “WTF lol” – although most of the collection could have been labelled that.

He did amazing things there for his first few years, but it has been total crap the last few seasons. I guess career journos are too scared to piss off Louis Vuitton – one of the many things that is wrong with this industry.
