Giambattista Valli Couture Spring 2014

This was a mixed Giambattista Valli show, featuring a ton of beautiful couture cocktail dresses and gowns, but punctuated by a few sloppy silhouettes with too many drapes. I love the way Valli has created his own couture handwriting, simple, bold shapes with lots of embellishment that rarely looks cluttered. He is a designer that was meant to do couture, I just wish he had edited this collection a bit better.

I love…

that this reminds me of 1980’s Ungaro and I am totally ok with that.

this beautifully dramatic gown.

a super simple couture mini dress.

I loathe…

a highly unflattering silhouette. How the heck did this get approved?

that a lot of the drapes in this collection looked sloppy. A big bow over the bust is not ideal.

that there were a lot of badly proportioned dresses in this show.

I think this was, in terms of colour and originality, one of the best so far. I fell in love with the bold colours and some of the drapes, but I’m worried about some of the short skirts length… when’s too much too much?

I guess the customers would order slightly longer versions… but I do agree some were too short.
