2014 September Issue Covers Part 2

More of the great and garish September 2014 magazine covers. Read part 1 here.

I love…

Cara Delevingne on the cover of Vogue UK. Such a predictable choice of model but at least the outfit is interesting (and it is not Kate Moss.)

Rita Ora on the cover of Glamour UK. Ok, she is totally overexposed in the fashion world, but this is a cool look for a september issue cover.

Nicola Maramotti on the cover of Harpers China. No idea who this is but I love the simple cover.

Irina Shayk on the cover of Vogue Spain. Love that she is holding the “G.” Great looking cover!

Kristen Stewart looking good on another cover, this time, Vanity Fair France. Maybe she has grown out of her miserable teenage years.

Rihanna on the cover of W. It’s dark, the nose ring looks stupid, and the jewelry looks very stereotype African (even though she is Caribbean.) But it’s noticeable, and makes you look.

Kate Upton on the cover of British Elle. Even though this is a boring photo I really like her and am glad to see her on magazine covers.

Kate Bosworth on the cover of British InStyle. Chill out on the serious facial expression and the over highlighted cheek bones and we would have a VERY nice photo.

I loathe…

Lucy Hale on the cover of Cosmopolitan. We just waited outside a trashy nightclub until there was a girl stumbling out at 3am with a slutty dress on and bad hair. Then we put her on the cover of our magazine. Oh yeah, and “Best. Sex. Ever.”

Kylie Jenner on the cover of Teen Vogue. When teen magazines put Kardashians (or their relatives) onto the cover of their magazines, then it is a sign that this is who teens look up. And that makes me die a little inside.

Kendall Jenner on the cover of LOVE magazine. “American Girl.” Isn’t that a disgrace to all of the American girls who aren’t trashy reality TV stars?

Lindsay Wixson on the cover of Vogue Russia. The outfit and wig are bad, but the prize goes to her pursed lips. They are the worst.

Part 2 of Harper Bazaar’s covers, this time with Penelope Cruz. She looks terrible! And the title is covering her face!

Part 3 of Harper’s Bazaar’s covers. Whose idea was it to take a fabulous supermodel and put her in a pile of old knits????

Beyonce on the cover of CR Fashion Book. This is just boring. Carine Roitfeld can do better than just sticking someone like Beyonce on her cover. It’s predictable. It’s uninteresting. And it’s not new. I want Carine to bring us NEW.

Nicola Maramotti is a spokesperson (and CEO?) of Max Mara — weird choice!

Kendall Jenner is the WORST model. Beautiful girl with no facial expressions.

    I don’t get Rita Ora.

I like Linda and Beyonce covers — at least they are sort of edgy.

  • alexandrasuhnerisenberg

I don’t know, the Linda cover looks like a failed attempt at edgy. She doesn’t always have to be glamourous but she looks silly in a pile of knit blobs. And maybe you are right about Rita Ora… I don’t know much about her but I do like her look.

Linda in knit blobs is styled by Carine Roitfeld, which is at least different for her.

  • alexandrasuhnerisenberg

I guess so. But still, it doesn’t matter who styled it. Knit blobs are knit blobs. Even on a supe. 😉

  • R.S.

I do love seeing supermodels out of glamour mode though. In 90s pictures the supers like Christy and Linda in Yohji and Comme look so much less contrived than on the waifs the designers envisioned. Maybe it’s the clash of expectations that excites.

    For example:

Agree it can look good, but Linda’s makeup and hair here is very glam, and then she is just wrapped up in knit blobs. It doesn’t work. If they wanted to something different, they should have done it with the hair and makeup, too.

  • Mimi

Absolute fave among this lot is Irina Shayk’s cover. Cara’s lost her neck. Fashion covers aren’t as edgy or creative or even striking as they used to be. With the exception of a few magazines like Interview and W.

Agree – they all look so boring these days.
