2015 Golden Globes Red Carpet

While this was a boring red carpet, it was also a good one. Very few distressing outfits here, most people looked pretty decent, which is a good thing since it takes them months to prepare for this. And in case you are wondering, Versace won.

I love…

red carpet, golden globes, celebrity fashion, evening wear, kate hudson, versace

Kate Hudson in Versace. If anyone can get away with a slutty dress like this, its her.

red carpet, golden globes, celebrity fashion, evening wear, ruth wilson, prada

Ruth Wilson in Prada. A classy dress in an unusual colour, this looks nice.

red carpet, golden globes, celebrity fashion, evening wear, naomi watts, gucci

Naomi Watts in Gucci. Not exactly ground breaking or even interesting, but at least she looks nice.

red carpet, golden globes, celebrity fashion, evening wear, lupita nyong'o, giambattista valli

Lupita Nyong’o in Giambattista Valli. This is an actress who knows how to stand out.

red carpet, golden globes, celebrity fashion, evening wear, lorde, narciso rodriguez

Lorde in Narciso Rodriguez. One of the few times I approve of crop top on the red carpet.

red carpet, golden globes, celebrity fashion, evening wear, kerry washington, mary katrantzou

Kerry Washington in Mary Katrantzou. Great cut and fabric, this looks stunning.

red carpet, golden globes, celebrity fashion, evening wear, kate beckinsale, elie saab

Kate Beckinsale in Elie Saab. Boring, but she is smiling and she looks pretty. That’s enough to make it good sometimes.

red carpet, golden globes, celebrity fashion, evening wear, julianne moore, givenchy

Julianne Moore in Givenchy Couture. This might actually be my favourite dress of the Golden Globes red carpet. It is perfect couture.

red carpet, golden globes, celebrity fashion, evening wear, julia louis-dreyfus, narciso rodriguez

Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Narciso Rodriguez. Another completely forgettable dress, but I’ll take boring and attractive over exciting eyesore any day.

red carpet, golden globes, celebrity fashion, evening wear, , jessica chastain, versace

Jessica Chastain in Versace. The main reason why Versace “won” this read carpet is quantity, but some of their dresses, like this one, were quality, too.

red carpet, golden globes, celebrity fashion, evening wear, helen mirren, dolce & Gabbana

Helen MIrren in Dolce & Gabbana. God damn if I look like her at 69 I will be freaking thrilled.

red carpet, golden globes, celebrity fashion, evening wear, gwyneth paltrow, michael kors

Gwyneth Paltrow in Michael Kors. Every single one of her outfits screams “I exercise non-stop and do depressing detoxes so my body looks as perfect as this.”

red carpet, golden globes, celebrity fashion, evening wear, felicity jones, christian dior

Felicity Jones in Christian Dior. I like a big, classy ballgown from time to time.

red carpet, golden globes, celebrity fashion, evening wear, emma stone, lanvin

Emma Stone in Lanvin. Nice to see a woman in pants on the red carpet.

red carpet, golden globes, celebrity fashion, evening wear, emilia wickstead, diane kruger

Diane Kruger in Emilia Wickstead. Does this woman ever look bad?

red carpet, golden globes, celebrity fashion, evening wear, claire danes, valentino

Claire Danes in Valentino. It’s a bit busy for my liking but she wears it well.

red carpet, golden globes, celebrity fashion, evening wear, cindy crawford, versace

Cindy Crawford in Versace. Hard to imagine her not making Versace look good.

red carpet, golden globes, celebrity fashion, evening wear, amy adams, versace

Amy Adams in Versace. Another completely forgettable dress, but I’d rather look good and be forgotten than be remembered for looking like crap.

red carpet, golden globes, celebrity fashion, evening wear, allison williams, armani prive

Allison Williams in Armani Prive. Love these layers of horizontal pleats.

I loathe…

red carpet, golden globes, celebrity fashion, evening wear, tinay fey, amy poehler

Tina Fey in Armani Privé and Amy Poehler in Stella McCartney. Are they both trying to add ten pounds with these dresses?

red carpet, golden globes, celebrity fashion, evening wear, sienna miller, miu miu

Sienna Miller in Miu Miu. Yikes! What happened to her??

red carpet, golden globes, celebrity fashion, evening wear, alexander mcqueen

Selma Hayek Pinault in Alexander McQueen. You are married to a bazillionaire who has owns some of the best designer brands in the world, and you choose a white strapless dress???? Lame, because it is such a boring choice and lame, because this is not how Alexander McQueen should be represented on the red carpet.

red carpet, golden globes, celebrity fashion, evening wear, rosamund pike, vera wang

Rosamund Pike in Vera Wang. Those cut outs are just wrong.

red carpet, golden globes, celebrity fashion, evening wear, maggie gyllenhaal, miu miu

Maggie Gyllenhaal in Miu Miu. The fabric, cut, and colour of this dress aren’t doing her any favours.

red carpet, golden globes, celebrity fashion, evening wear, keira knightley, chanel

Keira Knightley in Chanel. Probably the tackiest dress on the red carpet, made ten times worse by the matching bag.

red carpet, golden globes, celebrity fashion, evening wear, jennifer lopez

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad. Does anyone still care about her?

Jennifer Aniston in Saint Laurent. Yes, Jennifer Aniston. In Saint Laurent. Let's forget for a moment how boring this dress is, and reflect on the fact that Mr. Hedi I'm-too-cool-for-everyone Slimane has allowed Jennifer Aniston to wear one of this dresses on the red carpet???

red carpet, golden globes, celebrity fashion, evening wear, jane fonda

Jane Fonda in Versace. Just because you are over fifty and smoking hot, doesn’t mean you have to wear dresses like this. It looks like you are trying too hard.

red carpet, golden globes, celebrity fashion, evening wear

Amanda Peet in J Mendel. Tried to find a flattering angle on this dress. Failed.

I’ve read your blog for a couple of years now because I like your outspoken style. OK….On Jane Fonda you are way off base. She is beautiful…I don’t like the dress either but she makes it look as good as it could. She’s not “trying too hard”. Her look is well maintained and polished. Polished takes some effort, and by the way, she’s not just over 50… She’s 77.

  • alexandrasuhnerisenberg

Yes – but this is all about the dress! She is trying too hard with it. She is beautiful but this dress is not doing her any favours.

I get your point, and agree that anyone in a dress that is revealing in an area where maybe there should be some underwear might be trying to attract attention, but that’s what all these events are about…trying to be noticed. The dress is old news, it’s not innovative, but Jennifer Lopez is wearing a low plunge and almost crotch high slit and is definitely trying…why isn’t that trying too hard…that’s also an ugly dress with too much fabric, not doing her any favors. My issue is that I felt that particular comment was be more about the woman not dressing her age than it was about the dress. ALMOST EVERYONE (sorry couldn’t find italics and don’t mean to shout) at these events is trying…and there is no visible line between just hard enough and too hard. Comments on Jane aside, that dress is kind of tame for Versace-on-a-celebrity, at least she can walk without all her privates on display… although there are no pictures of the back;). As I write I realize I’m over-analyzing. Keep up the commentary – it’s always interesting.

  • alexandrasuhnerisenberg

Lol – yes, I think you are overanalyzing. But the comment does slightly refer to her age. I don’t feel like women of that age should dress that way. Just because she looks fabulous for 70, and Jennifer Lopez looks fabulous for whatever age she is, doesn’t mean they need to wear ridiculously cut, suggestive dresses. Anyway, it is hard to convey a deep opinion on a dress in one line! :-)
