Gareth Pugh Fall Winter 2010

Gareth Pugh‘s first catwalk collection was so refreshing. London has always been know as a city that gives birth to some of the craziest fashion in the world (Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood.) But things were getting boring in the mid-noughties, and then suddenly Gareth Pugh came along, giving us totally un-wearable clothing with extraordinary catwalk shows. It was exciting, refreshing, and fun. Now he has probably realized that he needs to start selling some clothes, in order to make money and do that he needs to make clothes a real person can wear. Which is unfortunate, since the collections certainly aren’t as exciting as they used to be.

I really didn’t like the menswear in this collection, in fact it was terrible (and I have a pet peeve for designers who put both on the catwalk) and the womenswear was much more tame than usual. But he did some great stuff with leather, which is why, genius me, has found the perfect job for Gareth Pugh. He should go and work for Jitrois in Paris. Jitrois is a very tacky leather brand that desperately needs a creative director. Gareth Pugh is an amazing designer that needs a great job where he can funnel his creative energy into some commercial pieces, and still continue his own brand, preferably doing the crazy stuff he did when he first started.

And if Jitrois isn’t hiring, Thierry Mugler should snap Gareth Pugh up right now…

I Love…

the way this leather looks like its been molded to the body. It's futuristic biker wear.

chevron leather. And the A-line shape and funnel neck. A very usual cut for a leather coat.

this fabric. Wow!

Gareth Pugh's space-age gothic style.

I Loathe…

really bad menswear. Like this.
