Menswear Spring Summer 2011: Bottega Veneta

If I was a man, with a bit of cash, I’d wear Bottega Veneta. Tomas Maier just seems to “get it.” His menswear is classic but fashionable, young but manly, classic but cool. And always effortless, one of my favourite fashion words.

I love…

perfectly effortless, classic tailoring.

a white suit that looks manly.

the styling and the castings at Bottega Veneta. I am sure this clothing is probably a bit expensive, since it is nothing special, but it looks just right.

diluted army meets casual summer.

designed, but not overdone, trousers. Bottega Veneta is SO good at translating utilitarian menswear into luxury clothing, without losing the essence of the workwear.

super classic tailoring that looks effortless.

I loathe…

short shorts on men! It's too much!

Can you explain why short shorts on men is too much? This is a very uncritical, gender-biased, pointless and simply ignorant statement. To put it plainly, short shorts are only yet another item of clothing, and there’s no need whatsoever to associate any type of clothing with  a particular gender anymore. It just doesn’t rhyme with the times we live in. It is far more justifiable to state that short shorts look best on individuals (irrespective of gender) with the right, well-groomed legs.

Ignorant and pointless? That is harsh. Call me old-fashioned, but I don’t like men in short shorts, skirts, or dresses, unless they are in drag. That said, I also don’t like seeing anyone in short shorts who doesn’t have decent legs.

“**there’s no need whatsoever to associate any type of clothing with a particular gender anymore”

Ummm… I don’t see the menswear business doing a killing in dress sales.
