Alexander Wang Spring Summer 2011

The first 15 looks of this Alexander Wang collection were white, and then the colours turned to beautiful pistachios, burnt oranges, and other unusual pastel tones. I love the one-colour looks, and the loose, easy clothing, but some of the deconstruction looked a bit weird.

I love…

loose layers of white fabrics on simple silhouettes.

a peach summer dress with gold foil.

a beautiful, cosy pistachio cardigan.

uneven layers on this burnt orange wrap coat dress.

I loathe…

this silhouette, it looks far too structured and clunky in this otherwise easy, effortless collection.

an overly deconstructed skirt and a sweater that looks like something I'd have given away to a charity shop.

a dress made out of plastic wrap and old painter's uniforms.

When I first saw this collection, I thought shades of 90s Lang/Demeulemeester and while it did feel fresh initially, now it just seems contrived. By comparison, Proenza showed a strong, more original collection.

Yes, I totally agree. Very Demeulemeester and not very original. He should focus more on his t-shirts, because that is something he is doing well.

What's funny is that I bought and wore the originals. The fact that it is now being referenced makes means I'm getting on but to the teens and twentysomethings out there, this is the first time they would have seen something like this.
